Wow it's amazing the transition program is nearly coming to an end. It seems like a few weeks ago we were just having orientation and struggling to remember everyone's name. Shelly scared the freak out of us acting like a suicidal person about to jump from a bridge.Mmmmm it has been challenging and sometimes stressful. But what can I say "WORTH IT" So what have I learnt or benefited from the program
• I have learnt and improved in risk assessments, mental health assessment and risk management skills as I have demonstrated through the transition program as I partook in daily mental assessments, risk assessments & drawing up practical management plans for my patients.
• I have learnt the importance of managing risk & or aggressive situations has grown Andvhave learnt to subscribe to early interventions methods such as engaging in 1:1 for de-escalation purposes, use of prn medication.
• My awareness fir the need to maintain safety has improved , I have learnt to prioritise everyone’s safety & the use of security where necessary in conjunction with the shift leader.
• I can say I now have excellent communication & listening skills, As I engaged with patients, families, external support agencies, the MDT verbally & electronically.
• I am aware of the importance of punctuality and good time managemen. My time management skills have improved as I learnt to be punctual & prioritise my work.
• I Now have a better understanding of the mental health act 2014.
• These qualities have grown and improved through the transition program, motivation, calm relaxed, confident/assertive, respectful, punctual for work, caring , approachable ,open to new ideas, innovative and subscribe to the notion of evidence based practice etc
