So, its finally coming to an end with our final roatations fininshing in another few weeks and than we will be officially considered as RN's. It has been an interesting/challenging/rewarding year. At times it has been overwhelming, especially in the begining, when,as a grad, my knowledge base wasn't the greatest. I walked into the ward with some really negative perceptions set up by people/ health professional who are not a part of mental health. I was expecting a lot more violence, code grey, code black, seclusion, old barbaric ways but, to my surprise there was no such thing. Infact, the violence is far greater in the genral wards.
Now, when I am at the finish line, It is very clear that our clients are percieved so differently due to the stigma in the society.
I have learnt a lot about mental health related problems faced by communty as a whole and drug and alchohol issues on top of that is a whole different issue. Working in Adult acute inpatient Unit and Community care units equipped me with skills required in different settings and how different the treatment could be. This year has also brought out some of the leadership qualities which were spotted by some of my seniors. Although I am at very start of my journey I am excited to to be on this journey and happy to take on few extra challenges and learn a lot more about mental health and am excited to see the change that we might experience along the way.
