After today's workshop, i learned many things that i didn't know before.
First of all, is the stage of changes: -Pre contemplation
-contemplation
-Decision Preparation
-Action
-Maintenance
-Relapse
Health care professionals have to always be aware of the stage that a consumer have and give relevant assistance as needed. You could never expect a person to quit drugs when they are not ready to.
As a nurse, in order to help consumers better, we have to know the 3 areas of harm minimisation as well and this includes: - Harm reduction
- Demand reduction
- Supply reduction
Particularly, we could provide consumers with education about harm reduction such as not sharing the needles. Or Give their emergency services contact numbers whenever they have an emergency such as Overdose of drugs. Also, ask them to do drugs with other people they know so that if something happens, they could have someone around to help.
Moreover, as a health care professional, we could utilise some psych-social interventions to help them with reduce addition. Counselling example would be Motivational interviewing which is an very effective strategy for us to help the consumers to discover their motivation to quit smoking, drugs and etc.
